Attempting to obey God and follow Jesus Christ our Lord

Upon the Alter of Molech

19 “But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,20 then I will uproot you from My land which I have given [e]you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples. 21 As for this house, which was exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and say, ‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’ 22 And they will say, ‘Because they forsook the Lord, the God of their fathers who brought them from the land of Egypt, and they adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them; therefore He has brought all this adversity on them.’”2 Chronicles 7:11-22 (NASB)

Throughout the Bible we find instances of people that began with the foundation of God as their cornerstone, find themselves growing complacent in their faith. Turning from God and embracing other gods and idols. Even to sacrificing their children to the alter of Molech. In each instance we are given examples of both the tolerance and love of God in warning the people, and the destruction that is upon them when God’s patience runs out.

With each passing day we find ourselves further and further along the path that Ahaz King of Judah took. We are sacrificing our children in the guise of abortion, and even when we are warned, our government doubles down and encourages even more as if in sacrificing our children we will earn the rewards that they feel we are owed. King Ahaz even sacrificed his firstborn as if by doing so he would save his kingdom.

In perverting the promise of God and relying upon false idols, he gained nothing and lost everything. And we as a people who began the creation of this country on the foundations that Moses brought down from the mountain, and wrote into law, have turned away from the God of Moses and the belief in Jesus as our Savior, to false idols and empty words with a promise of change. A promise based on nothing but an illusion. We have allowed ourselves to forget the results throughout history of just this kind of faithlessness.

Perhaps we do not think that God will actually let this country be destroyed! If we are relying on this, we are fooling ourselves because as He has shown over and over throughout history, He does not allow this kind of evil to stand very long. We have already been warned, and whether we find ourselves facing invasion by others, or destruction by natural forces, it will be with God’s permission that it is done.

Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand;
it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint,
and every man’s heart shall melt:
8 and they shall be afraid:
pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them;
they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth:
they shall be amazed one at another;
their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh,
cruel both with wrath and fierce anger,
to lay the land desolate:
and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light:
the sun shall be darkened in his going forth,
and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil,
and the wicked for their iniquity;
and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease,
and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold;
even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens,
and the earth shall remove out of her place,
in the wrath of the Lord of hosts,
and in the day of his fierce anger.
14 And it shall be as the chased roe,
and as a sheep that no man taketh up:
they shall every man turn to his own people,
and flee every one into his own land.
15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through;
and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.
16 Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes;
their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them,
which shall not regard silver;
and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18 Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces;
and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb;
their eye shall not spare children. Isaiah 13:6-18 AKJV
